Aim of the toolkit

Whether you are commissioning or developing a new service or reviewing an existing service we hope you will find valuable information and suggestions to help you improve the outcomes for women from new migrant communities affected by gender based violence (GBV). The aim of the toolkit is to provide resources for agencies seeking to improve outcomes for women from new migrant communities affected by gender based violence.

Who will find this toolkit useful:

  • Funding providers and commissioners
  • Organisations establishing or delivering services for women affected by GBV
  • Project leaders with responsibility for developing, improving and sustaining services for women and children affected by GBV, specifically those seeking to ensure that their services are accessible to women from new migrant communities
  • Agencies working in partnership with those who are developing or delivering services for women affected by GBV
  • Trainers working with organisations to develop or deliver services for women and children affected by GBV, specifically those seeking to ensure that their services are accessible to women from new migrant communities
  • Managers working with staff and volunteers to deliver services to women and children affected by GBV, specifically those seeking to ensure that their services are accessible to women from new migrant communities.

The toolkit aims to assist agencies coming into contact with women from new migrant communities in the following ways:

  • In creating an environment where issues of GBV are not ignored
  • In developing interventions that prevent GBV and develop concepts of rights, responsibilities and healthy relationships
  • In identifying women from new migrant communities affected by GBV
  • In developing services with and for women from new migrant communities affected by GBV
  • In developing partnerships across the voluntary sector to address the needs of women from new migrant communities affected by GBV
  • In developing policies and practices, which protect and empower women affected by GBV and educate and nurture children and young people to fosters healthy relationships
  • In creating or protecting funding streams which support the development of services for women and children affected in new migrant communities affected by gender based violence.

Included in the toolkit are downloadable checklists for community groups, agencies dealing with domestic and gender based violence, and funders and policy makers.
